I Need Sleep!

After being awakened in the wee hours of the morning the other night when our neighbor’s place burned to the ground, and then being amped up on adrenaline and not able to get back to sleep, I was really looking forward to some solid dream time before I had to get up early to go to the doctor yesterday (Wednesday) morning. Unfortunately, it turned out to be one of those restless nights where I tossed and turned all night long, couldn’t shut my mind off, and finally crashed from exhaustion about two hours before the alarm rang.

We saw the surgeon, Doctor Toub, at 9:30 and after going over my symptoms and medical history he scheduled me for biopsies on both temporal arteries first thing Monday morning. He told us it will be on an outpatient basis, with local anesthetic and a mild sedative, so apparently it’s not that big of a deal.

Of course, it’s like what a friend of mine told me before my first cataract surgery many years ago. They do millions of those procedures every day all around the world and it’s not a big thing unless it’s your eye they are messing with. Then it becomes a big thing to you, anyway.

We had not had breakfast, and by the time we were finished at the doctor’s office we were ready for food. We stopped at Blue Mule Deli, one of those places the tourists never find that is popular with locals, and had Cuban sandwiches for lunch. This isn’t a fancy place. You order your food at a counter and they bring it to your table. But what the deli may lack in ambiance, it more than makes up for with delicious food.

When we were done with lunch, we made a quick stop at the post office to mail off some book orders, then stopped at Publix grocery store to pick up a few things.

Back at home, I really wanted to take a nap, but there was work to be done. Miss Terry has been busy editing and proofing my new John Lee Quarrels mystery book, Dead Romeos, and was making corrections to get it ready to send to my second proofreader. It’s well past the halfway point, and with any luck at all I will send it to Judy this evening, or else sometime early tomorrow.

Our friend Jim Lewis came over in the afternoon and visited for a while, then suggested we go to Goodrich Seafood for dinner. Tucked away on a back road, this is another of those “secret” spots that is a real gem. It’s also Terry’s favorite seafood restaurant and it wasn’t hard to talk us into it. And as always, it was delicious.

Back at home we spent another couple of hours working on proofing and corrections, then finally relaxed for a couple of hours of TV, which I found it hard to keep my eyes open for.

Speaking of books, it’s Thursday, so it’s time for a new Free Drawing. This week’s prize is an audiobook of Capturing Faith, the first book in Victoria Schwimley’s teen/young adult Faith series. To enter, click on this Free Drawing link or the tab at the top of this page and enter your name (first and last) in the comments section at the bottom of that page (not this one). Only one entry per person per drawing please, and you must enter with your real name. To prevent spam or multiple entries, the names of cartoon or movie characters are not allowed. The winner will be drawn Sunday evening.

  1. Tart red cherry juice or the dried cherries taken an hour or two before you go to bed are supposed to help you sleep. Guess they are high in melatonin which helps you sleep better.
