How Did I Miss That?

Until blog reader Misty Farrell brought it to my attention yesterday, I did not realize I had failed to start a new drawing for the last week. Usually our free drawings begin on Thursday and the winner is drawn Sunday evening. How did I miss that? The only excuse I have is that between the Fourth of July holiday and getting corrections made to my new book Big Lake Ninja, my mind was somewhere else. I apologize, and I promise we’ll have a new drawing starting this coming Thursday.

As for the new book, it’s with the final proofreader now and it won’t be very long before it’s available on Amazon. I always release the e-book first and then wait a week or two before doing the print edition, just in case some typo managed to slip through and got missed.

Yesterday was a very stormy day here on the central coast of Florida, with lots of thunder, some heavy rain, and an overall gloomy feel to the day. I spent the time writing the first chapter of the next Big Lake book, which will be attached to the end of Big Lake Ninja as sort of a preview of things to come. This next book will be called Big Lake Quarterback, and since I’m not a fan of team sports, I’m having to do quite a bit of research into small town football programs.

I’m also working on the new edition of my authors newsletter, which I will be sending out to subscribers as soon as the new book is released. The newsletter is free and includes information on my books and writing activities and those of some of my author friends. If you would like to be added to the mailing list, send me an e-mail at editor@gypsyjournal.net. I promise your information is only used to send you the newsletter and doesn’t get shared with anybody.

Speaking of books, if you’re a fan of supernatural thrillers, my friend Cameron Lowe’s The Ghost at His Back, the first book in his Rankin Flats series, is free today only on Amazon. Be sure to get yourself a copy. I’m not a big fan of books about the supernatural and people with gifts like that but I decided to try this book based upon the recommendation of a friend, and I liked it. Cameron has a unique way of telling a story that pulls you in and keeps you turning the page. Who knows? After reading this, I might be a fan of supernatural thrillers after all!

For quite some time now I’ve been having problems posting the blog at night. Sometimes it takes three, four, five, or even six attempts, getting an error message each time, before it finally posts. And then sometimes people using Google Chrome or Firefox only get the previous day’s blog, not the newest one. It seems like we figured out a way around that problem, but lately Malwarebytes has been throwing up a random message sometimes when people try to go to the blog, warning that it has been hijacked. We have run multiple scans on the website and there is absolutely no indication of this being true. A while back we installed an SSL certificate, which is supposed to create a secure link between a website and a visitor’s browser. Some people told me they’re going to stop reading the blog because they don’t want to take a chance, and I can certainly understand that. But, to the best of my knowledge, and that of Greg White, who handles these kind of things for me, and the folks at Go Daddy, this message is just an aberration and no cause to worry. We continue trying to resolve the problems.
