It has been very hot here on the Central Florida coast for the last few days, with the temperature edging up close to 90° most days. And it’s only going to get hotter. The weatherman says that the region can expect temperatures in the mid to upper 90s for the next week or two. Fortunately, here on the coast we always seem to get a little breeze off the ocean, which can make a difference is much as 5° to 8° compared to just 20 miles inland.
But compared to the kind of weather a lot of places are dealing with, we have nothing to complain about. There is snow in Arizona’s high country, flooding and tornadoes in much of the Midwest, and a potentially deadly heat wave in the Southeast. As for us, hurricane season starts June 1, so we will be watching the weather carefully over the next four months. We have our Honda generators, extra gasoline for them, a supply of water and canned foods, plenty of flashlight batteries, and everything we need to get by if we do happen to get hit. Of course, if it looks like it’s going to be something really bad we will pack up the van and get out of Dodge, like we did for hurricanes Matthew and Irma.
Memorial Day weekend is always the kickoff to the busy summer camping season, something working families and weekend warriors love, but that fulltime RVers begin to dread. Sites in campgrounds are harder to come by, and if you can find one you can expect to be dealing with a lot of smoky campfires, loud music, screaming kids, and barking dogs. But what the heck? It’s just for a few months and then everybody will be back in school and life will get back to normal.
Now that we are no longer fulltime RVers we don’t have to worry about all of that anymore. But we do prefer to hunker down at home on holiday weekends like this just to avoid all of the traffic and crowds. We are officially old farts, and we don’t need all of that nonsense.

Thought For The Day – Never say “that could never happen to me” because life has a funny way of proving us wrong.
