Singer/songwriter John Lennon said it best – “life happens while you are making other plans.” That’s pretty much what happened with us yesterday.
I had planned to spend an hour or so finishing up the new issue of the Gypsy Journal so I could print it out and Terry could proof it. But about the time I was getting ready to do that, our friends Paul and Sally Wagner came by to say hello. Paul and Sally used to be fulltime RVers and had a permanent site here at Elkhart Campground before they hung up the keys a while ago. We have not seen them in a couple of years, so it was a real treat to have an opportunity to catch up on everything that’s been happening in their lives.
Not long after they left, my cousin Berni Frees and her husband Rocky showed up. They live in Muskegon, Michigan and Rocky is a volunteer with the Michigan Maritime Museum in South Haven. He is one of the crewmen on the tall ship Friends Good Will and was sailing Saturday morning. Since South Haven is about halfway between Muskegon and Elkhart, they decided to come and see us. What a treat that was!
Rocky and Berni are two of our favorite people in the world, and as Rocky said, no matter how long we are apart, five minutes after we get back together it seems like it was just yesterday. All four of us just click together.
It was interesting to hear about the tall ship, something I’ve always wanted to take a sail on, but never have. Rocky said he will be training to climb the mast to work the sails, but I would be much happier standing on the deck and watching, thank you very much.
After visiting for a while we went to Texas Roadhouse for dinner, then came back to our motorhome and played a game of Mexican Train, which is probably one of the most popular Domino games among RVers. And as always happens when we get together, there was a lot of laughing going on.
Rocky and Berni left a little after 8 PM for the drive back home, and we are looking forward to seeing more of them while we are in the area. Thanks for coming down, guys, we really enjoyed it!
So obviously I didn’t get much accomplished yesterday. No problem, there’s always today. That’s why I don’t wait until the last minute. Like John Lennon said, life happens.
