I’ve been very good about trying to avoid junk food ever since I was hospitalized back in November. I haven’t had a Pepsi or any kind of soda since then, and I used to drink several a day. I’ve lost 30 pounds and I’d really like to lose a lot more, and keep it off. But it isn’t easy. Especially when the Russell Stover factory store is right here in Wildwood!

I think everybody staying here at the Three Flags RV Resort makes at least one visit there while they’re here. It’s been a while since we were there, and since then the place has been remodeled. The old warehouse part is still there, and the new section they have added on has an ice cream counter and a big showcases full of fudge and goodies like that. I think I gained three pounds just walking in the door!

This place is a chocoholic’s dreamland. They have aisle after aisle of candy bars, malted milk balls, and gift boxes of mixed chocolates, along with jelly beans and plenty of other sweet treats.

They also have holiday gift boxes if you want to get a head start on next year’s Christmas or Valentine’s Day! I’m trying very hard to resist the temptation to go back there and pig out.

Yesterday was a writing day for me, and I managed to knock out another 6,000 words on my new Big Lake novel. This puts me close to catching up to my 1,000 word a day goal for the year, and almost three quarters of the way through the book. I also spent some time looking over the cover designs that my artist, Elizabeth Mackey, sent to me.

While I was doing that, Miss Terry was busy, too. She spent some time laying out patterns for a couple of new weaving projects, then made a delicious pizza for dinner. Actually two pizzas, one with pepperoni for me and a second one with pepperoni and all kinds of veggies for her. Then, after she did the dishes and cleaned up from dinner, she began winding two separate warps of thread for her new project. I’m looking forward to seeing what she comes up with.

Good news for fans of my pal Carol Ann Newsome’s excellent Dog Park mysteries. Muddy Mouth, the fifth book in the series, has just been released and is now available on Amazon.

It’s Thursday, and that means it’s time to kick off a new Free Drawing. This week’s prize is an audiobook of Big Lake Blizzard, the fourth book in my Big Lake mystery series. To enter, all you have to do is click on this Free Drawing link or the tab at the top of this page and enter your name in the comments section at the bottom of that page (not this one). Only one entry per person per drawing please, and you must enter with your real name. To prevent spam or multiple entries, the names of cartoon or movie characters are not allowed. The winner will be drawn Sunday evening.

Thought For The Day I hate when people ask me what I’ll be doing in four years. I have no idea. I don’t have 2020 vision.

  1. Congratulations on losing all that weight! You need to update your photos, we won’t recognise you. Maybe before and after 😉 I’m like you, resisting the treats is very hard.

  2. Congrats on kicking the Pepsi habit. Personally, my problem is getting dehydrated (I’m a Type 1 diabetic); and, like W.C. Fields, I have an aversion to drinking plain water. Bourbon or Scotch added to it works, but not in my life at this time. I have found my soda fix with Walmart’s house brand flavored, carbonated water http://www.walmart.com/ip/Clear-American-Golden-Peach-Naturally-Flavored-Sparkling-Water-2-l/11303923 I’ve tried all the flavors and found that I never tired of peach; and I average 1 1/2 liters per day. At $ .68 per 1 L bottle, I haven’t gone broke (yet).

  3. Chocolate is made from the seed of a tree. Eat it.

  4. Glad to hear you’re working on the next Big Lake book. Do you have any idea when Big Lake Honeymoon and Big Lake Reckoning might become available in paperback? I’ve got patrons at the library hooked on them and they are anxiously waiting for those two.
