For the last 10 days we’ve been pretty much living at the hospital and then hospice with our friend Shar and her husband, getting there early and staying late. We would get home in time to check e-mail and Facebook, write a blog, and go to bed. So I have not gotten much work done and though I do not regret the time we have spent with Jim and Shar, I have really missed it.
Shar left us peacefully early yesterday morning, surrounded by love. Terry and I spent the day with Jim trying to give him some comfort. For a guy who makes his living with words, I just can’t find any that help at times like this.
I also volunteered contact the mortuary and make arrangements for Shar (I could and will write a Bad Nick blog about that experience soon). For now, let’s just say that if you think used car and RV salesmen can be slimy, you have no idea how some (not all) of the people in the funeral industry can be when people are the most vulnerable.
Hopefully in a couple more days life will begin to get back to normal for us. We have about a week left here in Apache Junction and then if the weather cooperates, we will go up to my daughter’s place outside of Show Low for a couple of weeks before we start our eastward trek toward Goshen, Indiana for the Escapees Escapade Rally May 12 – 17.
While we’re still here I have to make a few changes to the print edition of Terry’s cookbook, Miss Terry’s Kitchen, and upload it to CreateSpace, Amazon’s book printing division, and then finally I’ll be able to get back to my next Big Lake book. Readers are asking if there will be another book in the series and yes, there will be several more to come. I appreciate your patience.
In the meantime, don’t forget the new anthology I’m participating in; 9 More Killer Thrillers, which will give you nine full length novels by nine bestselling authors for just 99¢. Now how can you beat a deal like that?
Well, actually you can. Some of my author pals have put together a collection of short stories by 31 of the most gifted writers of our time, including Brandon Hale, Saxon Andrew, Russell Blake, Anna J. McIntyre, Donna B. McNicol, and Dale Roberts, to name just a few. And even better, their book, End Of The Road, is free! Here’s an idea, get both books today and you’ll have plenty to read while I try to get caught up.
And don’t forget this week’s Free Drawing for an audiobook of Big Lake Lynching, the second book in my Big Lake mystery series. All you have to do is click on the Free Drawing link and enter your name in the comments section at the bottom of that page (not this one). Only one entry per person per drawing please, and you must enter with your real name. To prevent spam or multiple entries, the names of cartoon or movie characters are not allowed and will be deleted. The winner will be drawn Sunday evening.
Thought For The Day – One day you will wake up and there won’t be any time left to do all the things you always wanted to. So do them now!
