Trying Something New

I want to start today’s blog by wishing our dear friend Jan White happy birthday. For those of you who have not had the pleasure of meeting her, Jan is a wonderfully kind and patient woman, which she needs to be to put up with hubby Greg, and in extra large doses when Greg and I get together. I hope you have a delightful day. We miss you and we’re looking forward to seeing you guys again.

Jan

We are enjoying our time here at my daughter’s house in Taylor, a few miles north of our old hometown of Show Low. The girls are all over us from the minute they get home from school until bedtime, and by the time they go to bed, we’re worn out and ready for bed, too.

Miss Terry is having a good time cooking huge meals, which is real treat for her. Yesterday it was her delicious shredded beef tacos, with refried beans, Spanish rice, and pico de gallo.

Granddaughter Hailey will turn eleven in a few days, but her birthday party is today and her mom needed a place to store one of her presents for a couple of hours yesterday. It’s surprising how many people slowed down when they saw this guy sitting behind the wheel of our Explorer!

The weather has been good, with warm days and cool nights, and last night we heard a few raindrops on the roof of our motorhome along with some thunder off in the distance. The weatherman says a cold front will be coming in over the weekend, so we’re keeping an eye on the forecast. When we lived here in the White Mountains we saw snow in late October many times and don’t want to deal with any of that nasty stuff.

A while back I mentioned that I’ve been working on some promotions for our blog readers, and the first two, our e-book special and our holiday subscription special both worked out very well and got a lot of response. Now comes the big one, and it’s very different, because you don’t have to spend a penny and you will have the opportunity to win some neat prizes.

It’s a free giveaway, and all you have to do is put your name down for the drawing. Each drawing will run for anywhere from a few days to a week, and sometimes longer for really big prizes, if the response from all of you is good.

What can you win? Anything from free digital subscriptions to the Gypsy Journal to books, audiobooks, and gifts from our sponsors. We’re going to start off with the audiobook version of Big Lake, the first book in my Big Lake mystery series. To enter, just click the Free Drawings link and enter your name in the comments section. So let’s get the ball rolling, and good luck!

While I’ve been busy playing doting grandpa, Bad Nick has been active too, posting a new Bad Nick blog titled Save The Children. Check it out and leave a comment.

Thought For The Day – Maybe it should be called Unplanned Parenthood.

  1. Just to make you feel better, Elkhart saw s*** this morning on cars and rooftops. Leaving for Florida Tuesday. supposed to be back up in the 50s. Wont be the same without John and the occasional loaf of fresh bread.

  2. We’ll miss being in Florida this winter.

  3. Just want to say, I have had the pleasure of meeting Jan and of course Greg….They invited us to visit them Gate Guarding, while on our trip to Texas….What a wonderful woman she is….and so friendly…They were both so helpful and full of info of retirement and the Guard job….It was such a pleasure to sit and visit under their awning in the hot sun on a gravel road, while trucks came and went, and made it dusty….lol..(I think thats a good description) haha…It was HEAVEN….and Nick….I need to buy a Kindle one of these days to take advantage of your books….but for now, no time to read….A year and a half and we will by on the road….and I’ll have a brand new Kindle….
